I think there should be receptacles for recycling bottles, cans, glass, etc on each floor and wing of the library. I know there are paper recycling bins, but it seems that more often than not, the small garbage cans are overflowing with cans and bottles - kind of counter to Western's "green" image. But, not only is the lack of bins environmentally irresponsible, it makes the library feel cluttered and unkempt. With the garbage cans full of potential recyclables, there are often piles of candy wrappers, potato chip bags and apple cores littering the floor space around the garbages. This mess seems to encourage a pattern in which others leave their garbage on or underneath the tables. Therefore, easily accessible recycling bins would markedly improve the library's environment.

Agree with Need for More Recycling

I definitely agree with the need for more recycling bins in the library for not only paper, but glass and cans.

you can recycle

You can put cans and bottles in the recycling bins with the paper. I am a student employee and when I take out the recycling, I just sort through the bins and separate all the paper form the cans and bottles. There is a bin for cans and bottle downstairs in the recycling room. So cans and bottles are recycled when you throw them in the paper bins. Just no coffee cups! Coffee cups can not be recycled!

Yes!

I have found that there is a lack of recycle bins all around campus, this is definitely worth looking into and so easy to resolve.

I thought we weren't

I thought we weren't supposed to eat in the library... I can see getting a paper recycling, but a can and bottle recycling bin might encourage people to drink beverages around books...

Closed containers are acceptable

Beverages with lids are accepted in the library, including most of the soda and juice bottles that get left around the library. I think recycling bins would reflect well on Western's envrinomental values.
