I use the media library extensively. I commonly check out 5+ videos at a time and wish there was a greater selection. It would be nice to see a general list of what films are on reserve since they are usually films worth watching, but I can never find out what they are without being enrolled.
I'm currently enrolled in a horror film senior seminar and have noticed that the school has almost none of the films for the class. I noticed the library picked up all of the films from the Trash Cinema course that just started up and would love to see this become a trend. I would encourage teachers to help the library add relevant films, etc to better teach their courses.
It would be nice to expand the school's film selections by acquiring more DVD's as too many films are only available on VHS. It would be nice to put a cap on the amount of late fees students get per day on late movies. $3 for 3+ late films a day would be more than enough to encourage movies be returned right away.
It would be worth installing at least 1 region free dvd player in the general media library as having to checkout a special room/remote is a hassle.

MEDIA, VIDS, REGION-FREE PLAYERS - LIBRARY RESPONDS, August 2008

The library video collection has been built primarily to support curriculum.  That said we are very fortunate to have an extensive and ecclectic group of feature films.  Unfortunately the money that buys videos is the same money that buys other needs for disciplines - books, journals, database access, etc.  So, like you, we feel like we don't have as much in our video collection as we'd like.

That said - Fall Quarter we will be adding a significant number of DVDs to our collection purchased with special funds specifically for general interest viewing by students!  And these films were selected over the summer by a group of students working here in the library.

Last we have added 4 VHS-DVD combo units in the AV room behind the Media Desk.  These players all have region-free DVD capability.  You'll find them at the first cluster of 4 viewing stations in the AV room.  Enjoy!
