Group work, quiet working, facebook regulations and more
I would love to see more group study rooms with more soundproofing. I remember going to the library to work on a group project and we had to sit in the main room because all the group rooms were taken by the one person.
South Campus drop box= goooooood
More movie selection, with longer checkout= gooooood
Special Collections should be open longer
Library as a whole should be open longer
Carrying Bads
I think that the library should provide carrying bags for checkout with books. Sometimes you check out books that are too big for your backpack or you have too many of them so they don't fit, and you have to carry them awkwardly out in your arms. This is heavy and impractical, especially in the rain.
If there were totes designed to allow for easy carrying of large, heavy bookloads and protection from the rain it would be far easier on those doing big reasearch projects.
Reserve books
I think that it would be great if there were less in the way of fines for Reserve library books. It is $1 per hour for the first three hours and 50 cents per hour after that for each book, so the fees become astronomical if you get sidetracked and return your books a few hours late.
More comfy study rooms and internet material
There needs to be more couches. People seem to almost fight for the free couches to sit in, whether it be to read or to take a nap in. Let's be honest, as college students we get little sleep at home and often nap where we are: School. Although I know some people say they study better at a desk, there are plenty of majors that require LOTS of reading and would rather this be done in a couch rather then a chair.
Earlier due date notices
I've noticed that when notices are sent via email about upcoming material due dates, the notices are sent the day before the item is due. Because I don't necessarily check my email everyday, and because of having a busy schedule, I'm not always able to return matierals the next day. The public library in the town I'm from would send out these notices 7 days before the due date. This was really handy. Could our library send notices earlier?
Checking out Periodicals
I LOVE that we can now check out periodicals! Keep this feature because I think it's wonderful!
Overtime for laptops should be more fair
On the laptop checkouts, the fine policy should be less severe - $10 an hour, effective the minute after it is due? I have never been personally affected by this policy, but I've seen people who have and it has made me feel real bad for them. One guy was an hour and 10 minutes late and had to pay a $20 fine.
Media Library
I use the media library extensively. I commonly check out 5+ videos at a time and wish there was a greater selection. It would be nice to see a general list of what films are on reserve since they are usually films worth watching, but I can never find out what they are without being enrolled.
