anyone notice how...
... how all the words in each title get automatically uppercased but the remain the same in the Recent Comments side bar? That's just some shoddy programming tsk tsk.
Website
I would like to see WWU homepage more assessable on the library homepage. I always have to scroll down to find it. In fact, it used to be conveniently placed at the top of the page. I think the library should realize just how important WWU is to their existence. They are important to each other. Therefore the WWU link should receive prominent placement on the library webpage.
Group work, quiet working, facebook regulations and more
I would love to see more group study rooms with more soundproofing. I remember going to the library to work on a group project and we had to sit in the main room because all the group rooms were taken by the one person.
South Campus drop box= goooooood
More movie selection, with longer checkout= gooooood
Special Collections should be open longer
Library as a whole should be open longer
journal searching databases
I want to be able to access literary journals through ProQuest or another database that ARE AVAILABLE. Recently I spent an unnecessary amount of time clicking on journal titles that certainly pertained to my topic of interest, clicking on the "find it" button, and then getting the fun pop-up, "we don't have it here but,..." about 25 times. It would be great to find available articles through the library webpage search.
Also, Saturday should be open later than 6pm.
Output Catalog Searches in spreadsheet-friendly format.
Especially for large research projects with many possible sources, add a new output format:
When collecting possible research sources into a bibilography for sorting/searching, I exported to text.
After export, I found I needed to spend a good deal of time editing the text file to put it into a form suitable for import into a spreadsheet so that I could sort on author, title, call number, etc, from offline.
So far, none of the export options are easily converted into a form suitable for spreadsheets.
SUGGESTION:
Online Journal Articles from Online Databases that must be requested via ILLIAD
Its nice that the library provides the students with an online Internet Journal database. The database is very much appreciated, but it does not help when the journal articles that one wants (which is most of them) are not available online most of the time and the only way to get them is to request them through ILLIAD. The library pays an extra $30 for it, even if its an electronical copy that is being sent by another library. Wouldn't it be more efficient for the library to have its online access to it?
internet journal articles
I would like the library have a more extensive online journal article database. I know we have several databases, but i often find that the article i need is only available as a copy in the library. As i work full time and live off campus in addition to being a full time student, it would be nice if more articles were online--even if it were just a scan into a PDF file.
Searching Fiction on the Library Website
One thing that I noticed, is that it's incredibly hard to find a fiction book, on a given subject, using the library website. If, for example, I search for the keyword "Mystery," then I get a bunch of results of non-fiction books analyzing mysteries, or how to write mysteries.
It would be nice if there were some way to search just within fiction books, possibly by plot keyword.
Library website URL
Is there any way that we can make it so that I can just type in library.wwu.edu, and it will lead to the library? I keep forgetting that I need to put the www in the beginning there.
The Library Responds - What happens next?
First let me say, on behalf of The Western Libraries, thank you all very, very much for the great ideas being generated and dialogue that's going on here. Please keep it going! And spread the word about the blog to friends and profs.
OK - What is the library going to do with all these comments and ideas, when do we get a response, etc.?
