How to stop cell phone use in the library, permanently.

(or any similar product)

I'm not sure about the legality of these devices, but I know I've heard about movie theaters and other establishments using them.

Database searches are TERRIBLE

WHY ON EARTH ARE THE DATABASE SEARCHES SO SHODDY HERE?! I have spent hours upon hours doing research only to find database searches come up with hardly anything useful. I spent less time researching at my community college! SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!

New Chairs?

I love working in the library, especially the sky bridge. Most of the reason I like the sky bridge is that it is a good place to meet for study groups and is a good venue to meet and talk. However it's hard for me to go to other parts of the library and study in the quieter parts. One of the main reasons I like studying in the sky bridge is the comfy chairs. I hate sitting in the nasty old orange couches/chairs. Some of them are in such a bad shape that they make me itch, yea, and I can't sit on them without fear of a rash (yes it was a rash).

tony's coffee

While I don't think a seperate cafe/marketplace needs to be built, it would be nice if Tony's Coffee in Haggard had longer hours - specifically on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There ARE actually students in the library who would appreciate having a place to buy a snack/coffee during those times.

Lights

The 2 second blackout before closeout routine shouldn't be used in bathrooms. Blackout everywhere else, just don't do it at the john!

Coffee

I don't care whether we have a library cafe or not perse, I think that the haggard coffee shop is fine as it is, but I definately think that it should be open longer. I would propose that it be open 24 hours, but if that is impossible, it would be nice if it could stay open at least until 1 or 2 in the morning. Because, sad to say, when you're staying up all night, caffeine puchased just before 11pm doesn't last.

Longer Hours at Copy Services

As many of the design department know, there is usually a line at the copy center in the library at 8am with people running to class with last minute printing. It is not always possible to get your files ready to print by 8pm the night before a deadline, and because the art department is switching to 8am start time no one will be able to print before class. If the copy center could open at 7am (or at least 7:30) and perhaps even stay open later (10 pm would be nice), we could all meet deadlines better.

WSL Should be doing its job and AS could do something about the sneaky opt out system

While i was in Olympia, WA for the 2008 legislative internship i witnessed the Washington Students Lobby (WSL) advocate on behave of me upon issues that are not consensus issues on most campuses.

Multiple Ideas

I have a number of ideas, being the library veteran that I am. Delineated noise areas (silent floors, quiet floors and soundproofing of the group study rooms) would enable more effective studying for all library-goers. Longer weekend hours (open earlier, stay open later). Having longer cafe hours that match library hours. Finally, more tables and less cubbies because cubbies are too small for research or using more than one book or a laptop and a book at the same time.
