Buy Eric Wheeler's book!
Eric Wheeler is a Western Student, and he wrote a book and got it PUBLISHED! Why don't we have a copy in the library?!
adobe cs3 books
alot of the technology books on the adobe software are pretty out of date. I would also like to see some more recent graphic design books. It seems everytime i go to borrow a book, its outdated by atleast 10 years. Sort of hard to learn, when books dont even relate to software.
More books, please
The collection of the Western Libraries is an amazing resource – the books (a great fiction section of American, British, and Canadian lit), periodicals, and online journal access. And it seems that the staff works hard to manage it all and to serve the patrons, thank you very much.
I appreciate the efforts to expand and feature the Diversity selection.
Thank you for allowing the circulation of periodicals; I hope it continues, though I worry about the wear and tear on the less durable ones – maybe they should be checked out with a cover of some kind.
Orange Couches
The orange couches in Wilson are old and dirty... why not replace them with the newer cleaner purple couches like the ones on the 4th floor?
More stuff, please
I realize that there are more important complaints, about the availability of research journals through the WWU libraries.
More Books
I would like for our library money to be spent getting more books. We could use a more diverse collection. Also many books that are in high demand the library rarely has. It would be nice to have a couple copies of books that are in high demand. The quality of a library is based largely upon the quality and quantity of books it has.
Thanks.
More Books, New Books
Interlibrary loan is great, but we have a lot of empty shelves in our library. Is there a stockpile of books waiting to go on the shelves? Why don't we fill them with new books? Does the library ever buy used books (new titles)? Might this be a way of getting updated books at a decreased cost?
Mircofilm
There is a gap in the Seattle Time Microfilm from I think 1955-1980. It seems silly to have microfilm from 1984 on when thats available online, but not to have anything from the 60s or 70s which isn't availabe online.
Replace missing books and articles!
The Library needs to work on replacing lost/stolen/non-returned items. Last quarter I needed three books for a huge paper I was doing, and all three had been checked out since 2005. The librarians told me that the policy for that sort of thing was to not buy a new copy until the old one was paid for. It had been three years, I highly doubt that the person was coming back to pay for them. Our Library was the only place in Summit who had them, and, as such, I had to get them from the next closest source, New York city. I almost had to buy one with my own money just to get it in time.
Make modern books accessible
I suspect many categories of books could use some new additions. Specifically, I am frustrated by the "sustainability" and architecture sections. The books available are 20 - 40 years old. I'm fairly certain a few have been published since then.
Since the library is organized by the LOC system, most students will not be familiar with it when they get here (Dewey is far more popular). Suffice it to say the LOC does not always categorize things intuitively or even correctly. Especially with all the shuffling going on in the library, it is damn hard to find things.
